Welcome to Petathon! Please help rescue, spay, neuter and adopt homeless animals. Our goal is to raise $10,000,000.00 to build and maintain a state-of-the-art Animal Rescue Center which will be supplemented by mobile clinics and adoption centers to serve the needs of homeless animals in America.
What is Petathon? The term "Petathon" is similar to "telethon" which is any fund raising project which utilized television as the primary media to reach the public. In the case of Petathon we are raising money to help homeless animals or pets; hence the name "Petathon" or pet + athon. Petathon is an independent, grassroots effort to raise funds to help rescue, spay, neuter and adopt homeless animals, primarily dogs and cats. We are not associated with PETA or HSUS which are large and relatively rich established organization which spend much of their money on political lobbyists in Washington, DC. Petathon plans to spend 100% of its donations on work and efforts that will actually save the lives of homeless animals.
Initially we need to raise $500,000.00 to establish a pet rescue service which will have a mobile unit to serve rural communities in Mississippi and Alabama. This will then be used as a model to establish more pet rescue services. We also hope that we can help rescue pets nation-wide in event of disasters or other criticle need situations. Also we need to raise $10,000,000 for a state-of-the-art Animal Rescue Center. This will be a large complex that is designed to look like a square cross when seen from above that has a central dome and a paw spire. It will include a veterinary clinic, kennels and be operated by a trained staff of professionals, supported by volunteers trained in all aspects of animal rescue and welfare. The idea is to raise the money first through raising awareness, stimulating support, generating interest and step by step doing all those things necessary to reach these high goals.
Now you can help save the lives of homeless animals by buying a PAW. For every purchase you make a donation will be made to GSDAR, Inc., a nonprofit corporation dedicated to saving the lives of homeless animals. We eventually want to raise enough money to build a state-of-the-art Animal Rescue Center. To Buy A Paw just pick the amount you want to donate which corresponds to a gem colored paw as shown below. As you can see we have a long way to go to reach our goal. Please help by making a donation today.
Petathon started on Nov. 16, 2009 with $100.00. We will be updating to show totals indicated by paws. As donations grow the amount of dollars equivalent to one paw will be increased. Our goal is to raise $10,000,000.00 over time. Obviously we have a long way to go. These donations will be used to establish and maintain a state-of-the-art Animal Rescue Center, with a professional, trained staff, volunteers, and will include Mobile Animal Rescue units. Once we reach our goal we will continue to conduct the Petathon so that additional sums may be raised to maintain the animal shelter, employ staff and pay expenses. Eventually we would like to have an animal rescue service in all 50 states. We will also be posting photographs and updates on this site to show how the project is going as well as to show photographs of animals rescued. We also need someone to donate land, vehicles and/or equipment. As we are just starting out we desperately need some corporate and business sponsors to make some large contributions. Thank you for your patronage.

If you want to read more about me, please visit Angel, The God Sent Dog. You can find a number of pictures of me there. But what I'd like most for everyone to do is please have a heart and help rescue other homeless animals. Million of dogs and cats are destroyed each and every year in America. There are many cats and dogs in animal shelters that need a forever home. I will helping to raise funds to rescue, spay, neuter and adopt cats and dogs. If you want to save a life, please make a donation, purchase our gifts and apparel or visit you local animal shelter and adopt a homeless animals today.
Over time I will be working to help find forever homes for dogs and cats that have been rescued. But I cannot do this alone. The help of everyone who cares about dogs and cats is needed. Part of the problem is that people just do not care or they just do not realize how many homeless dogs and cats there are. To give you an example, it has been estimated that in Mississippi alone there are over 73,000 dogs and cats that are destroyed each and every year simply because people will not take the time and effort to visit an animal shelter and adopt a rescued animal. So all the time and effort spent rescuing many animals is wasted when these perfectly good and loving animals are destroyed.
Nation-wide millions of animals are destroyed each year. The problem of homeless animals is not just going to go away by itself. Everyone who cares about animals needs to come together and do whatever they can to help. My master made this website to help (of course it was really my idea) and I would not stop barking about it until he realized that the reason I was barking is because their were cats running at large around the neighborhood. So I barked and barked until my master came out side and took me for a walk around the neighborhood at night. Whenever I would hear or smell a cat I would bark and my master would shine a bright flash light in the direction I was looking. There in the distance we would see eyes of cats gleaming back at us. Sometimes the eyes were yellow or greenish and at other time they were almost orange. There were eyes gleaming from under houses, cars and even up in trees. One night we saw over twenty pairs of eyes gleaming back at us within just about 45 minutes of walking around the neighborhood.
This simple observation indicates that there are a lot of stray cats wondering the streets of cities in America. Also there are stray dogs. I've even seen packs of three or more dogs trotting by my home. It is worse when there is a dog in heat somewhere in the neighborhood. One time I even saw two dogs fighting over another dog which was inside a neighbor's yard. A big husky dog won that fight and jumped the fence into the neighbor's yard. Not long after that the neighbor's dog was pregnant and started getting larger. Then suddenly one day this dog was gone. It simply disappeared. I thought this was very strange because the pregnant dog had not done anything wrong; it was a very good dog. But the people who owned this dog never let it come inside and after the big husky dog jumped the fence and got the neighbor's dog pregnant, she just disappeared. I wonder if she was taken out into the country and abandoned or even killed, because not too long after this these same people got a new puppy.
I mention this only because it illustrates part of the problem. There are a lot of people who are irresponsible. They do not take proper care of their dogs and cats. They let them run at large or they do not spay or neuter them. Then they get pregnant and there are more and more homeless animals as a result. It is a vicious cycle which results in an endless flood of homeless animals, many which are starving, infected with fleas, heartworms or other parasites. Often these homeless animals become injured. Sometimes they are hit by cars or even hurt by people.
It does not have to be this way. I know there are enough good people in the world that homes can be found for many of the animals that are now suffering. If you are one of those people, please make a donation, purchase our gifts and apparel or visit your local animal shelter and adopt a homeless animal today.

These gifts and apparel feature an adorable paw print design created by Terry Lynch, a master artist. The paw print was made by taking a photograph, using it to produce a fine line ink drawing, then importing this into a graphics program to produce the final work of art. The high resolution prints are available on products to anyone in the United States or internationally who wants to use them to help raise funds to support their local animal shelter or humane society. The design also urges people to rescue, spay, neuter, and adopt as this is recognized by the Humane Society of the United State and the American Veterinary Medical Association as the best approach to solving the problem of animal control and homeless animals on a long term basis.

GSDAR is a grassroots effort that, like a seed planted in the ground today, hopes to germinate, grow, and blossom as a large tree that will bare fruit in the form of a great humanitarian effort to save the lives of homeless animals everywhere. But to grow GSDAR needs your support.
One of the reasons for starting small and working up is to avoid any possibility of getting swamped by the enormous tidal wave that is the thousands upon thousands of homeless animals, as has happened to so many other people who have attempted to do animal rescue without proper funding, facilities, support or manpower. This is why to in the initial phase GSDAR is concentrating its efforts upon raising awareness, stimulating support, generating interest, and raising funds. Along the way we are doing little things to help such in the case of Angel, The God Sent Dog, which was rescued and now has a forever home. Our founder, Terry Lynch, has also helped by supporting the adoption of Lex, the War Dog, that Lex might be adopted by his handler's family after he was killed by an RPG in Iraq. Also Lynch has helped find forever homes for Romeo and Juliet, two German Shepherds, and other homeless animals. Plus GSDAR provides a comprehensive listing of animal rescue organizations in our region which each work within their means to help homeless animals. Also GSDAR is developing a number of fund raisers like Petporium to enable achieving our high goals while boosting support for such vital causes and programs as Spay, Neuter & Adopt A Paw Animal Rescue.
In addition to these projects and goals, we would like to establish a nation-wide membership base of people who are actually involved in working animal rescue. This can be anyone who actually is involved in going out into their community to rescue animals. If you are an animal lover and are actually working in animal rescue you are invited to become an associate member of GSDAR today. We may be able to offer special services to associate animal rescue organizations such as directory listings, posting of animals for adoption on-line, fund raisers, etc.
